DC, which stands for Direct Current, is an electrical current, or flow of charge, that moves in a straight line (the opposite of AC, which is an Alternating Current that changes direction).
Most of the world’s power grid is based on AC power. However, a battery only stores DC power. With DC charging, the conversion from AC- to DC power takes place in the charger itself in stead of within the electric vehicle (as is the case with AC charging).
